Just finished this one, lounging in my bed after a glorious Easter Sunrise service this morning. ✨ I really enjoyed this book. It’s been described as Anastasia in space, which, that alone drew me in, because I *loved* the animated Anastasia movie when I was in high school, but this was so much more than that. It was a beautiful story, full of layered meaning, a story of friendship and love and sacrifice, and well, a great book to finish up on Easter. 4.5 ⭐️s from me for this one. ✨ “Hope is born in darkness. ✨Book haul!✨ Here are the books I bought, acquired, and/or took to get signed at the LA Times Book Festival this past weekend. ✨ It was seriously so fun to wander around at booths, listen to authors speak (and meet some of them), and just generally be around tons of people who love books. We definitely hope to return again next year and continue trying to go to bookish events as much as possible. ✨ Autographs I got were from Chanel Cleeton, Sarah Enni, and Julie Buxbaum (also got her new ARC!), and I was thrilled to finally find a used copy of Illuminae. ✨ Favorite panel was with Tahereh Mafi, Veronica Roth, and others. It’s sunny, our family is officially on spring break, and I’m headed to LA tomorrow for a bookish adventure with @theselovelypages, so basically: 🎉🤩👏🏼🥰🙌🏼🥳. ✨ This seemed like a good fun book for kicking off spring break. BECOMING MRS. LEWIS took me by surprise— I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, honestly. I thought it would be on the boring side but it had a pretty quick pace. There was almost a YA-level of angst in Joy’s story (maybe that’s what I liked about it? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂). ✨ And while I definitely didn’t agree with all of her life decisions, I could relate in some degree to her struggle with identity as she navigated being both a mother and a writer. ✨ I look forward to discussing this with my book club in a couple of weeks! I love taking book recs from my kids! Gigi (almost 12) found and read this book, and told me I should read it because it was so good. ✨ Well, I did (I listened to about 2/3 of it then read the rest), and it was so sweet and moving. THE END. Two words that are just thrilling to tap out on the keyboard. I just finished the first draft of my third complete manuscript in the last few years. ✨ I am in love with these characters and their story and I can’t wait to dive back in for revisions and beefing up. It was a great reading month! I read 13 books— 8 YA, 3 for #middlegrademarch (plus a few more still in progress), 1 ARC, and 1 nonfiction. ✨ Several of these were rereads. Listening to old favorites on audio is my new fave!
